Great Ocean Road Day 3

Day 3 we drove out to Warnambool and went to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum. they had a neat old seaside village as part of the museum. We got to see old boat making shops, rope and net makers, black smiths, post office, school, church, police station etc. There were also boats in a marina that we could explore. It was neat.

Feeding the ducks.

The lighthouse at Flagstaff Hill.

Liam and Spencer pretending to deliver the baked goods.

There was an old military post there on the hill with an armoury, cannons, barracks etc. We climbed around the magazines and canons.

Some old artillery and cartridge magazines

Such a beautiful view, but nothing to shoot at

There were some old residences there as well with active gardens. One was the old lighthouse keepers place with all the old artifacts and period items.

The old church in the seaside village, and the post kids...get it, post kids!?

Aren't they just so reverent?

Beautiful stained glass of Christ guiding a sailor at sea.

Spencer in the sail making shop
Mel in the rope and net shop.

Maeby was not going to touch that filth thing

This could have been a really nice photo - minus the squinting and wind blown hair, but special thanks to Maeby for making it a really memorable one.

This was our stop at "The Arch"

This was at a whale watching beach outside of Warnambool, we came at the wrong time of year to see whales.

Oh, I think I saw a tail splash waaaay out there...see it?

Don't remember what this place was called, but it was pretty.

We hiked down to that beach and climbed around on the rocks, played in the sand and took some pictures

You have seen these ones before

No, Willy didnt throw her off, he was just making sure she didn't jump off onto some other rocks or climb up too high and fall off, because she totally would have. She jumped all on her own.

Maeby trying to do the splits

This place was called the Grotto, it was small but amazing. Here are the steps leading down to the little cubby protected by a rock wall.

You could see the deep blue and white waves crashing in the distance, beatifully framed by the stone arch and highlighted by the deep green pool just in front. You could clearly hear their thunderous clash with the rocks as well. It was surreal, inspiring, breathtaking.

Too bad the camera could not capture all the colors with such contrasting light and dark.

From just above the Grotto.
